Majdi Laktinah

Majdi Laktinah is an expert on migration and health. Born and raised in Syria, he moved to Germany in 2012, where he has lived ever since. He holds a Master’s degree in Global Health from Karolinska Institute (Sweden), specialising in migrants’ and refugees’ health. His work focuses on client and community engagement, mental health and sexual health, as well as promoting equity and accessibility in healthcare systems across Europe, particularly in Germany.

Majdi has extensive experience in initiating and managing emergency response projects, including refugee accommodation centres, mental health support services and COVID-19 isolation facilities. He has worked as an advisor and qualitative researcher for regional and international humanitarian organisations, dedicated to developing people-centred, accessible, and culturally appropriate services. Currently, Majdi is the Client and Community Engagement Manager and a member of the senior management team at the International Rescue Committee Germany (IRC). He was also a member of the German delegation at the 75th UNHCR ExCom Plenary Session in Geneva, where he represented the Refugee Advisory Board Germany.  

Motivation for Joining the RAB

As a strong advocate for inclusion, mutual respect and civic responsibility, Majdi is committed to shaping policies that affect migrant and refugee communities. He aims to contribute to the Refugee Advisory Board Germany by promoting equal opportunities for all voices and driving sustainable, positive change. Majdi emphasises the need for policy improvement through dialogue between civil society, migrant-led organisations and policymakers, as well as transparent, open communication with communities to build trust. He advocates for measures that promote increased political participation and a political discourse that truly reflects the diversity of German society.
