Şengül Çelik

Dr Şengül Çelik is a philosopher and ethicist committed to human rights, bringing over 15 years of experience across academia, research and social engagement, including 15 months of social work with refugees at Trockendock e.V. Originally from Turkey and now based in Germany, she has taught at several universities, most recently in bioethics at the University of Mannheim. 

Şengül’s expertise lies in applied ethics, bioethics and social justice, with a strong focus on women’s rights, migration and refugee protection. Beyond academia, she has written widely for broader audiences, publishing essays raising awareness of human rights, gender equality and social responsibility. She has delivered numerous seminars and public lectures on philosophy and ethics internationally. 

Currently, Şengül serves as Director and Non-resident Senior Research Fellow at the European Center for Populism Studies (ECPS), where she coordinates human rights initiatives. 

Motivation for Joining the RAB

Şengül ‘s vision for the Refugee Advisory Board is to strengthen refugee participation in decision-making and promote integration policies ensuring equal opportunities for future generations. Her motivation for joining the Board stems from her belief that every refugee is unique and deserves not only protection but also the opportunity to have their voice heard and participate as an equal member of society.
