Mojib Rahman Atal

Dr Mojib Rahman Atal holds a PhD in Migration Studies from the University of Erlangen–Nürnberg. His doctoral research explored institutional violence and everyday discrimination against Afghan refugees in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden from a comparative perspective. Before relocating to and resettling in Germany in October 2015, Mojib served as a Political Advisor for the German Consulate General and Embassy in Afghanistan. Following the collapse of the Afghan government in 2021, he advised the German Federal Foreign Office on the evacuation of vulnerable Afghans from Afghanistan.

Mojib has also worked as a Researcher at the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval), where he contributed to the Interministerial Strategic Evaluation of Germany’s Civil Engagement in Afghanistan (including work related to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ). From 2020 to 2023, he also taught Migration Politics at the Technical University of Nuremberg (TH Nürnberg). He is currently an Integration Policy Analyst at the Migration Policy Group (MPG), an independent Brussels-based “think-and-do tank,” where he contributes to several EU- and non-EU-funded projects on migration and integration.

Motivation for Joining the RAB

Drawing on his lived experience as a refugee and a professional trajectory spanning academic research, evaluation and policy analysis—particularly in forced migration, asylum and integration—his motivation to join the RAB Germany is to share lessons learned and promote promising policy practices that benefit both migrants and host societies.
