Abdul Basir Zarify
Basir Zarify is an Afghan human rights advocate and refugee support professional who came to Germany in 2022 through the humanitarian admission programme after facing persecution and displacement in Afghanistan. Having personally experienced the challenges of forced displacement and integration, he is deeply committed to protecting and empowering vulnerable communities.
Basir has developed strong expertise in refugee protection, humanitarian admission programmes, resettlement and asylum procedures. Through his work as a Case Worker in the German Federal Admission Programme for Afghanistan (BAP), he has prepared and managed more than 200 cases involving women, human rights defenders, LGBTQIA+ individuals and artists. This role has provided him with deep insight into both the UNHCR resettlement process and the German admission programme and asylum system.
In addition to his professional and humanitarian engagement, he maintains active voluntary collaboration with various national and international organisations, supporting advocacy, integration and refugee empowerment initiatives. He has also been active in political and diplomatic dialogues, engaging with members of the German Bundestag, international delegates, German offices and leaders and even the Federal President of Germany. He achieved C1-level proficiency in German within one year and is currently studying Computer Science in Germany.
