Centring Refugee Leadership at the 2025 Humanitarian Leadership Conference

On 8–9 April 2025, Majdi Laktinah represented the Refugee Advisory Board Germany at the 2025 Humanitarian Leadership Conference in Doha, an in-person gathering of humanitarian experts, civil society leaders and researchers to explore new approaches to crisis response. As a panelist in the session "Refugee Leadership and the Forced Migration Polycrisis", Majdi spoke alongside Mohammed Naeem, former Chair of the United States Refugee Advisory Board (USRAB) and Rez Gardi, Co-Managing Director of R-SEAT.

In his remarks, Majdi emphasised the need to understand and respond to intersecting crises—where displacement, conflict and political instability overlap—within regional and global frameworks. Drawing on the work of RAB Germany, he highlighted the limitations of traditional advocacy and called for alternative strategies grounded in political activism, democratic participation and refugee-led leadership. His contributions helped to centre refugee voices in broader conversations about humanitarian reform, underscoring the vital role of diaspora communities in leading sustainable change. In addition to his panel participation, he joined a workshop on leadership in Syria and connected with refugee-led organisations and global partners to share knowledge and strengthen networks.
