From Participation to Facilitation: RAB Germany at the 26th Berlin Symposium on Refugee Protection
Abdul Basir Zarify, member of the Refugee Advisory Board Germany (RAB Germany), moderated the 26th Berlin Symposium on Refugee Protection. The symposium brought together participants for two days of discussions, panels and exchanges on the future of refugee protection, 75 years after the adoption of the Geneva Refugee Convention.
The event gathered representatives from civil society, academia, government, legal practice and refugee-led initiatives to address current challenges to refugee protection and to underline the importance of defending asylum and human rights in an increasingly difficult political environment.
By moderating the symposium, Basir helped guide dialogue across sectors and perspectives. His role highlighted that meaningful refugee participation is not limited to sharing lived experiences, but also includes shaping agendas, facilitating exchange and contributing to high-level policy discussions.
RAB Germany thanks the organisers for their trust and their commitment to meaningful refugee participation. Special thanks go to the speakers, contributors and partner organisations who helped foster this important dialogue on the future of refugee protection.
