Bringing Refugee Perspectives into Parliamentary Dialogue
After finally having the opportunity to come together in Berlin, almost the entire Refugee Advisory Board Germany (RAB Germany) gathered for several days of exchange and joint activities. A key highlight was a parliamentary breakfast, held with the support of Hakan Demir (SPD), Member of the German Bundestag (MdB), which created space for direct dialogue between refugee representatives, policymakers, civil society and research organisations.
During the breakfast, RAB Germany members introduced the Board’s work and current activities, sharing perspectives on the situations in Syria and Afghanistan. The discussion provided an opportunity to bring the Board’s expertise and lived experience into parliamentary dialogue and to exchange views on issues affecting refugee communities.
The meeting brought together RAB Germany members and members of its Secretariat with Michael Arndt (MdB, Die Linke), representatives from other parliamentary offices and stakeholders from civil society, research and the media. By connecting actors from different sectors, the exchange helped strengthen dialogue between those directly affected by asylum and migration policies and those working to shape and implement them.
RAB Germany sincerely thanks Hakan Demir and his colleagues for their support in making the breakfast possible, as well as everyone who took part in this valuable exchange.
